Authorities have identified the man killed when he was hit by a train Friday in Mt. Olive in Wayne County.
Mt. Olive police say 27-year-old Marquis Lamont Ezzell from Calypso died when he was struck by the train around 1:35 p.m. Friday. Marquis has family in Mount Olive.
Witnesses stated that Marquis was walking south down the center of the train tracks with ear buds in his ears.
Witnesses stated that the southbound train was using audible and visual warning devices when it hit Marquis from behind.
A man has been hit by a train and killed in Mount Olive.
Authorities tell WITN the call came in about 1:35 p.m. Friday.
Mount Olive police, the fire department, EMS and CSX train employees were on the scene.
The man was hit along the tracks near South Center Street and Smith Street.
Police tell us the victim was a pedestrian.
A name has not been released.
