Fire crews battled a single-story house fire in Kinston that started very early this morning. Officials believe an arsonist set the vacant house on fire.
The home is on the corner of Caswell and Dover in Kinston. Crews have extinguished the blaze but remained on the scene at 4:30 a.m.
The house has significant fire damage, particularly visible on the roof.
Officials say the call came in at 2:50 a.m., but they don't know how long it was on fire before anyone noticed. The house was completely vacant with nothing inside. Investigators have been able to so far determine the fire was started in the back carport and storage room and spread to the entire house.
