Log Truck Accident Shuts Down Highway

A log truck accident shut down a highway in the east Monday morning.

Trooper M.G. Conley with the State Highway Patrol in Goldsboro says the log truck crashed at 4:41 a.m. The wreck happened on Highway 55, west of Mount Olive in Wayne County.

Trooper Conley says the driver of the truck, 63-year-old Monte Britt of Stanford, NC, fell asleep while driving. He has been charged with reckless driving.

Trooper Conley says Britt's truck is undergoing a federal inspection to see if there were other problems with the truck.

All lanes of traffic were closed while the clean up took place.

Roads are safe!!!! If drivers pay attention, stay awake, and drive appropriately for conditions....don't blame the roads!
