Murder Suspect Out Of Hospital, In Jail

A Nash County man accused of murder who was badly injured in a car crash is now behind bars.

Nash County lawmen say Trey Emerson, 21, is responsible for the murder of his friend, Michael Morrisette, Jr. in Bailey last Tuesday.

Online records show Emerson is now behind bars in the Virginia Beach jail. Officials say he got into a car crash after the murder, and after assaulting a woman in Virginia Beach. Emerson was hospitalized due to injuries sustained during the car accident.

It is not clear when Emerson will be brought back to Nash County to face charges.

Previous Story

Virginia police say a Nash County man who is wanted for murder here assaulted a woman in Virginia Beach before being critically injured in a car crash.

Trey Emerson is charged with the murder of his friend, Michael Morrisette, Jr. Morrisette's body was found Tuesday night in the woods behind his home. Nash County authorities say he had been shot.

Lawmen say Emerson fled to Virginia after the murder, assaulted a woman there and then on his way back to North Carolina crashed his vehicle in Currituck County. The man was airlifted to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital where he remains in critical condition.

Police in Virginia say Emerson was driving down Princess Anne Road in Virginia Beach when he stopped and assaulted a woman at Munden Pointe Park. Police have classified the crime as an attempted malicious assault with a knife.

Nash County authorities say they will wait for Virginia police to finish with Emerson on his charges there before they serve the murder warrant.

No motive for the murder has been released, but the day before the body was found deputies say Emerson allegedly assaulted Morrisette's sister.

Previous Story

A Bailey man is in a Virginia hospital after he was charged with killing a Nash County man.

Nash County deputies say Trey Emerson is in custody in Norfolk after his arrest.

The 21-year-old is accused of killing Michael Morrisette, Jr.

Sgt. Jim Breedlove tells WITN News that Emerson was an acquaintance of the victim's family. He says on Monday they investigated an assault between Emerson and Morrisette's sister. When they did a followup with her on Tuesday the sister told them she hadn't seen her brother since Monday. That's when they began searching for Morrisette and found him shot and killed in the woods.

Breedlove says they believe Emerson fled to Virginia, where he committed another assault. The sergeant says when fleeing back into North Carolina he crashed his car just over the state line in Currituck County. Emerson was taken to a Virginia hospital where he's in critical condition. Breedlove says the suspect will be served with the murder warrant once he gets back to North Carolina.

Previous Story

A murder investigation is under way after a body was found in the woods Tuesday night.

Nash County Sheriff Dick Jenkins says deputies found the body of 21-year-old Michael Morrisette Jr., of Bailey, dead in the woods around 10:30 p.m.

The crime scene is about a half mile off Needham Rd. near Stony Hill Church Rd., north of Bailey. The sheriff has not said how Morrisette was killed.

Earlier Tuesday, deputies investigating a separate disturbance that happened Monday, say they learned no one had seen Morrisette since Monday around 3:45 p.m. Their investigation led them to the woods where they found his body.

Sheriff Jenkins says they are looking for 21-year-old Trey Emerson, and are calling him a person of interest. They suspect he might be in Virginia.

I think people are getting fanatical with this. I don't think any of us really know what that boy was thinking. The people involved in the wreck say that it was intentional but I think they are more then a but biased after reading these news stories, Also the face that complaints were made that they have been "under reported on" I am not surprised at the things that have been said. It seems like its trying to make a statement because Mr. Emerson has been reported on and not so much them. This seems harsh but its the truth as I see it. I too am glad all are alright , including Mr. Emerson why by far will have the life long injuries in all this.

The comment about the car accident being under-reported was not a complaint. It was saying not all facts are widely known. Obviously a murder suspect will get the most media attention. We cannot know what he was thinking, but we observed his actions -- in person, in real time as it happened. So we are not being biased by stating what we witnessed.

Has anyone considered the possibility that he may have fallen asleep and or passed out at the wheel? That would absolutely explain his change in direction and no course correction, just looking at possibilities.

It will probably be years before a trial. These kind of cases take years and years to prove/disprove.

Chris, Bob, whoever you are , this is just sick and appalling and juvenile. Posting something in another persons CHILD'S name, is doing nothing for anyone, harassing the family of the man accused of doing all this you are acting no better then what Mr. Emerson is accused of. Bottom line, even if he IS guilty, it was not his wife and not his CHILDREN!!!! You are committing crimes as well in doing this, police investigators constantly look at these news sites, you are just pointing the finger right at yourself with some of this acting this way!! YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED AND SICKENED by your actions!!!

Do you have proof Chris posted that or are you just making that up too?

Yes as I have gotten the police involved in this "BOB" and they are able to track your IP address. Its really sad, a boy is dead, a family is injured, Im just trying to find out the truth whatever that may be... but this is what is happening, but yes I do have proof and we are in the middle of getting it taken care of with the Johnston County PD being impersonation is ILLEGAL....

I am Alorah's real mother, I am also Trey's wife. This person Chris, Is using my daughters name in his post to try to take suspicion off of himself, as some information leads investigators to believe that he may have been involved, anyhow guilty or not my daughter is 3 years old and her name needs not be slandered. It is also illegal. SO lets focus on the situation at hand and not other peoples innocent children...lets find justice for Mike no matter who was involved....

Thank you WITN for removing the comment. there is no reason to bring innocent children into this.

There was no stabbing in Balily. People need to get their facts right and use proper grammar in my opinion, no one will take anything seriously if you are talking like "yo man".
  • by Young Gotti on Aug 16, 2011 at 03:00 AM
yo man trey guilty. You will see come trial when all evidence is out. The sister reported the stabbing, then they found Michaels body, then the next thing he was in virgina with someone saying he tried or did stab her, then he head on collision-ed the car. All the loop holes or whatever people are noticing will come out and youll learn that they just make him more guilty. I wouldnt be defending this dude

I am so happy that your family is alive and well. However, you can you know the motives of another person? According to the news, he had only been driving since April this year. With that much inexperience, I say it may seem to be intentional, but it very could have been a mistake. Im sure he was under duress as well. Regardless, I am just happy all 5 people lived, and are thriving again, especially the children!

Thanks Lisa. His exact motive in our accident cannot be known, however he sped up and aimed towards us as my wife tried to get out of the way. He corrected his trajectory. It was a deliberate act... there is no need to speculate that it was a mistake. We were there and we took the hit.

The facts won't change because you want them to. Trey drove well within the lines of his lane and then took a calculated 45 degree turn, speeding up as he approached, and slammed into our car. That is a fact. He never wavered. He never swerved. And he never hit the brakes. Bad drivers are just that - bad. This was deliberate and direct.

And its appalling that anyone would even question that he intentionally drove into your family. Im glad you guys came out with your lives in tact.

Whatever either of you say, they will be able to know what happened when they test the angle of the wreck, the skid marks, where the cars landed, etc. Its all forensics. Just because you see that he may be guilty of things other then the wreck, I think people want to see what they want to see, just saying....

Interesting. To be clear, there are no skid marks because there were no brakes! All there is to go on is the angle of the impact, the direction that the two cars were thrown in, and then the distance until they stopped. It will be modeled. But again, to be clear Anne, it helps if you were the driver to KNOW exactly what happened. I hope you never find yourself in a 12 inch space of what is left of your front seat unable to scream about the pain you are in. You should probably not interject and leave the facts to those who were there.

Maybe but in my opinion he shot Mike..maybe on accident maybe not..then panicked, not sure what he did after this thats unclear..but he did drive to VA, attempted to stab a woman, IMO with intent to murder, but couldnt go through with it, then tried killing him self and taking out people with him, but failed in doing that too..thats what adds up the most to me but who knows.. we will know more come trial. I guess its possible he fell asleep but it doesnt fit the bigger picture, and the woman driving says he changed trajectory when they swerved

I was the passenger in the van which Trey Emerson hit with his car. He deliberately drove his car into us and caused the crash. I had very minor injuries and luckily our 2 kids are okay. But my wife, who was driving, was hospitalized with many fractures and only recently came home. We don't know his motive for driving head-first into a family but the fact is that he did it. Our part of the story has been under-reported by the media.
