Suspicious Fire Destroys Vacant Pitt County Home

A suspicious fire early this morning destroyed an abandoned home outside of Ayden.

Authorities say they found the home on Emma Cannon Road fully involved in fire when they arrived around 3:00 a.m.

Pitt County's fire marshal says there was no electricity to the home and the only thing left standing was the chimney. Gardnerville and Ayden fire departments fought the fire and were at the location for several hours this morning.

        JJ this is for you---- if you don't know what you are talking about it's better to keep your mouth shut and let people think you are stupid versus opening it and removing all doubt !!!!!

      That is wrong. They get there as soon as they can. A lot of the time they do not get the call until it is fully involved. This one was at 3:00a.m.

        I agree with Anonymous. At who is out @ 3am when the call is made any way? Let's give credit to these wonderful volunteers who most of them have a full time job & get up in the middle of the night to respond to a fire or accident.

        when we got this one it came over the pager as fully involved. and mack, we cant predict the future so there was no way we could have been there before it was fully involved. and no one lived there so we don't need to risk our lives for a vacant house, we have families that would be real upset if we died.

      Hello sir. Since you know so much about Ayden/Fire Rescue or Grifton Fire Dept please provide an example of a fire that was not contained in a quick and efficient manner.

      ...And loses. Come on! Picking on Firemen? Do you have any sense at all? Think about this: Vacant house (no electric/water), homeless person decides to flop there at night. Candle starts a fire. Does the homeless guy report the fire if he awakens in time? Not likely. More likely, he'll run off into the woods. Hide. Claim no knowledge of it. So the house goes up in flames at 3 A.M. (when everyone is sleeping) and the sleepy, day -job working Firemen rush out to put out the fire, way too late. {But I guess I could be wrong}
