The executive director of the Ayden Chamber of Commerce is now out of jail after being charged with simple assault. The Pitt County Sheriff's Office says Stacy Gaskins was arrested for assaulting her husband. Spokeswoman Christy Wallace says the crime report shows the alleged assault happened Sunday, and Gaskins was arrested Monday.
Wallace says the report shows Gaskins was arrested for assaulting her husband at their home in Grimesland on Sunday. Gaskins was arrested at a home on Snow Hill St. in Ayden on Monday.
Gaskins spent Monday night in the Pitt County Detention Center and was not immediately given bond. Wallace says suspects in domestic disputes are typically not assigned a bond right away; they have to spend a certain amount of time in the jail before they can be released.
The woman's bond was set at $500 this morning and she was released.
It's not the first time someone connected to the Ayden chamber has been in trouble with the law. The former executive director was charged with embezzlement in 2009. Records show Jennifer Barr was given a suspended sentence and placed on five years probation last year.
Records show a local chamber of commerce executive director is behind bars, facing a charge of simple assault.
Ayden Chamber of Commerce Executive Director, Stacy Gaskins was arrested Monday. The 37-year-old has a Grimesland address, but has been active with the chamber in Ayden for several years.
There is no word yet on who Gaskins is accused of assaulting, but Tuesday morning she was still in custody.
Gaskins was named to the Pitt County Chapter of American Red Cross Board of Directors earlier this month.
Ayden's former chamber of commerce executive director was charged with embezzlement in 2009. That same year, the town's financial director at the time was arrested after an ECU football game for second degree trespassing and obstructing justice.
