Scam Alert: BBB Calls Magazine Sales "Highly Suspect"
The North Carolina Attorney General's Office is warning people about door-to-door magazine sellers.
Officials say the sellers are sometimes legitimate, but the Better Business Bureau has labeled door-to-door magazine sales as a "highly suspect industry." Some companies bus young people in to neighborhoods who may claim to live locally and use emotional sales pitches.
Officials warn that many people who order magazines subscriptions from door-to-door sellers never receive a single issue.
Remember, in North Carolina, you have three days to cancel certain purchases, like door-to-door sales, even after you pay and sign a contract.
If you’ve had a problem with door-to-door magazine sales, you can file a complaint with the Attorney General’s office online or by calling 1-877-5-NO-SCAM toll-free within North Carolina.
