Ayden Native Indicted In Virginia Capital Murder

An Ayden native has been indicted in Virginia for capital murder.

Jeffrey Easley was indicted today by a Roanoke County grand jury for murder in the commission of abduction with intent to defile.

Easley is accused of killing Tina Smith last December and then abducting her 12-year-old daughter, Brittany Mae Smith. The woman's body was discovered December 6th by co-workers who went to check on her.

Authorities had searched for the girl in Pitt County, thinking she might have been brought here. The two were found days later in San Francisco.

The 33-year-old Easley was charged earlier this year with abduction with intent to defile in connection with the kidnapping of Brittany.

A commonwealth attorney said he has not yet decided whether to seek the death penalty against Easley or not.
