Ayden Considers New Upkeep Rules For Downtown Businesses

An ordinance that would force Ayden commercial property owners to keep a minimum upkeep of their downtown buildings is being considered.

Ayden Town manager Adam Mitchell says, the goal of the proposed ordinance is to preserve the town of Ayden by setting standards that all non-residential property owners must follow. However, Mitchell says, if the ordinance is passed, the town is willing to work with property owners. Especially those who may struggle to meet the ordinance's standards.

"You see a clean attractive community and you see some nice well and maintained buildings that are upkept. But there are a handful out there that need some work on," said Mitchell.

On May 13th, there will be a governing board meeting to discuss the proposal and hear input from the public.
