NEW INFO: Assault & Arson Suspect Captured

A man wanted for assaulting two women and setting one of the victim's possessions on fire has been arrested in Morehead City.

Thursday, Newport police said they were searching for James Willis.

They said early Sunday morning officers went to Walker Street for a domestic assault. They found a woman lying on the ground with Willis standing near a pile of burning clothes. The man escaped, and during the search for him lawmen found a second victim.

Today, after getting a tip, police went to a location where they say Willis was hiding in Morehead City. He was arrested when trying to leave.

Willis is jailed on a $2,000 bond as well as a court order for failure to pay child support.

James Willis is wanted on two counts of assault on a female, three counts of damage to personal property, burning personal property and resist, obstruct and delay a police officer.

Newport police say early Sunday morning they went to Walker Street for a domestic assault. They found a woman lying on the ground with Willis standing near a pile of burning clothes.

They say the 28-year-old man ran from them. Deputies, who were helping in the search for Willis, found a second woman victim. Police say the man assaulted the two women and then set one of their property on fire.
