Arrest Made In Greenville Murder

Greenville police say they've made an arrest in a shooting a month ago that killed a man outside a nightclub.

Eric Gilbert is charged with second degree murder in connection with the December 4th death of Derek Brathwaite. The shooting happened in the parking lot of Club Fuzion on West 5th Street.

The 22-year-old Gilbert is being held without bond.

Police have not said whether Gilbert is connected to the wounding of Ernest Wright who was shot in the face the same night at the nightclub.

E.J was and still is a great person. He only shot because they were shooting out there. He didn't have intentions on killing anyone. If u don't know him don't judge him! And for those who wish him death row, Too bad for y'all wishes because he is home with his family, and only stayed there a couple of months. We stick up for family! And R.I.P Derrick

I know EJ and he is not a thug or a "gangster" by any means. He has manners and is very well educated, I am a student with high standards, so I would never surround myself with anyone who was not on the same intellectual level as me. I do not know the exact details of what lead up to this situation, but I know that he is not a killer by nature something had to have made him feel threatened enough that he felt like this was his only means of a resolution. I am by no means saying what he did was right but I am saying that every story has at least 2 sides. People are sometimes so ready to judge someone for their immediate actions without stopping to think about mental processes that lead to the outcome. E.J didn't try to run from this, he did the right thing by turning himself in, and I am very proud of him for being a man about this situation. EJ, you made a mistake but remember only God can judge you properly. Keep your head up and do not let chastisement from strangers dampen you.

@Shanika Look at your self before you talk...because i can assume too just by off your name, like your ghetto or that you have sevral baby fathers so the point is dont assume because the one that got shot was the one that was shooting first so have a nice and peaceful day!

"Thou Shalt NOT kill": that doesn't mean "unless a gun is pointed in your face, and you have to decide your life, or the other person's!!"...WOW people, does the bible mean ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to you? It's funny how you can quote "Only God can judge me/him/her", but cannot see the wrong in taking a person's life. THERE IS NO JUSTIFYING MURDER! Murder is Murder point blank,PERIOD . I feel so sorry for both parties that's involved families, and friends because they are the one's who have to suffer through this hard time, and sift through all the lies. And shame on those who can't step back and give them the time they need to mourn!...

There is a tend in Greenville which can be seen here and on the front of The Daily Reflector (1) The Reflector reports the police blog with picture on the 1st page,(2) The news is correct except that it gives the City a constant bad name for crime (3) The pictures promote racism and fear of the black community due to the constant number of these stories and pictures (4) Also it provides notority to the criminals to have their pictures or garffiti on the front page especially the gang members/ artists, Like "he is a real bad dude, he just shot someone in the face" or how do you like the gang signs we are here. You and the paper are providing free advertising.

to mercy (anon): How come the article says his initials are E.G. but you say it's E.J. just because he's a junior? Don't call people illiterate when his initials ARE E.G.
