An armed robbery suspect is now behind bars, but he did not go easily. Officers say they chased him by vehicle and on foot.
Around 5 p.m. on Sunday Halifax County officials received a report of an armed robbery. While in route Weldon Police spotted a vehicle fitting the description of the report and attempted to stop it. Officers then chased the vehicle into Roanoke Rapids where police there got involved.
The vehicle crashed on Hinson St. and Hwy 48. The suspect’s then got out and ran.
Several minutes later officials detained 22-year-old Jereme Mackey of Raleigh.
He was charged with 1 count of Robbery with a dangerous Weapon, 1 count of assault by pointing a gun, 1 count of 2nd. Degree kidnapping, 1 count of possession of a firearm by felon and one count of resisting public officer.
During processing officers found an additional outstanding warrant from Wake County for resisting a public officer. Mackey is now in jail under a $1 million dollar bond.
The case is still under investigation.
