POLICE: Kinston Vacant House Fire Appears Set

Kinston police say a fire early this morning at a vacant house appears to have been set. It's the second time in five days that a vacant house in the city has burned.

The latest fire happened around 3: 15 a.m. on Caswell Street. A police department news release says "the fire appears to be set by human hands with available materials on site." It says the house received exterior damage, as well as damage on the second floor.

On Friday, two homes were damaged on South East St. in Kinston. A vacant house caught fire around 8 a.m., leaving it with heavy fire and smoke damage. The exterior of a home next door received minor damage.

The fire department says they have not determined a cause in the fire on East St., though the home had no utilities connected.

Earlier this year a series of arson fires struck eight vacant homes in Kinston between January and May. No one has been arrested for those fires.
