Animal Rescuers: Dog Fighting Just The Tip Of The Iceberg

A day after 48 dogs were rescued in what authorities say were two separate dog fighting rings, animal rescuers say what we're seeing is just the tip of the iceberg.

Lynn Swanson does rescue work in Jones County and says it's her experience that Eastern Carolina has a culture of dog fighting in some areas. "The community's got a wound and it needs to be addressed. We recognize there is a problem, the problem's been around for a while."

Swanson says dog fighting gets down to a matter of someones character and says, "We're not going to put up with that level of violence."

While lawmen continue to zero-in on the dog fighting, Swanson says puppy mills are another problem that plague the east and deserve as much attention.
