The Carteret Community College Spanish Mackerel/Dolphin Fishing Tournament will be held in Beaufort Saturday, June 25. The event is designed for smaller boats and entire families with categories for children, women, seniors, and men.
Spanish Mackerel and Bluefish can be caught close to shore, and have a wide popularity in the area. This year, the tournament also features a Dolphin/King Mackerel division for fishermen who want to venture further off shore.
The event is being held at The Boathouse at Front Street Village in Beaufort, right next to the new public access boat ramp. It's not too late to sign up. All of the tournament proceeds will benefit Carteret Community College and its students. For more information or to sign up, call 252-222-6222.
Last year, the winning fish was a 5.18 lb spanish mackerel caught by Holly Paquin of Morehead City.
