Air Station Marine Killed In Stickball Accident

An investigation is underway after a Marine was found dead at Cherry Point.

Air station spokesman Mike Barton says Lance Corporal Aaron Liu died after being injured playing stickball outside of his barracks.

Though the Marines believe his death was an accident, a standard investigation is being conducted.

Liu enlisted last August from Houston, Texas and came to Cherry Point to train in avionics, communication, navigation and cryptographic systems at the Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training.

Lt. Col. Paul Melchior, commanding officer of CNATT, said Liu made lasting impressions upon his classmates and instructors alike. "Lance Cpl. Liu was so talented and had a bright Marine Corps career ahead of him, but was stopped short with this sudden and tragic accident," said Melchior.
