A very cold weather pattern is taking shape across the East Coast. High pressure over the Upper Midwest is pushing cold air across the Great Lakes southeast into eastern North Carolina. Temperatures reached the upper 30s Monday and will barely make it above freezing the next two afternoons. Lows will dip to the lower 20s Tuesday morning and upper teens by early Wednesday. Skies will stay clear so there will be plenty of sunshine. Northwest winds at 7 to 15 mph will put an extra chill in the air with wind chill temperatures in the teens early Tuesday. A Freeze Warning is in effect for the Outer Banks. Some locations along the Outer Banks will experience their first freeze of the season tonight and Tuesday night.
