6 Month, 9 Mile Detour Begins Monday For Portion Of Highway 264 In Beaufort County

Residents in one County are going to want to brace for a 9 mile detour that's starting tomorrow.

NCDOT officials say that the bridge on US-264 over Broad Creek near Pantego will close until December 2nd.

The bridge was built in 1925 and is said to be structurally deficient. Officials say that it is still safe, but in deteriorating condition and was built to bridge design standards that are no longer used.

A signed, 9-mile detour will be used:

Motorists traveling east on U.S. 264 should use the following signed detour:
• Seed Tick Neck Road to N.C. 99 to U.S. 264 West/N.C. 99 back to U.S. 264

Motorists traveling from west on U.S. 264 should use the following signed detour:
• U.S. 264 West/N.C. 99 to N.C. 99 to Seed Tick Neck Road back to U.S. 264

The project is part of the DOT’s $450,000 state funded bridge plan for 2011 to 2013.
