$500,000 Dog Park Could Come To Greenville

A Greenville resident is a finalist in Purina Beneful's Dream Dog Park contest. If chosen, the city would win a new $500,000 dog park.

Leigh Montejo submitted a proposal and a video describing what she would include in her half-million dollar park. Montejo says in the video that she would make it a pirate-themed park complete with a pirate ship and a cannon that tosses tennis balls.

Her submission was chosen along with several others across the country to be a finalist. The winner will be chosen based on the following criteria: 40% online votes and 60% by the judges for the contest.

Anyone wishing to vote for the Greenville duo of Leigh and Bosco can do so once per day every day at www.wagworld.com. Voting ends September 8.

Having an expensive dog park will only be worth it if it is maintained. I hope Greenville would take better care of this one than the last one. Also, it would be great to have to register your dog and verify they've had shots updated. We stopped going because so many dogs were spreading diseases.

This is a contest provided by Purina Beneful, NOT THE CITY, read the article, get your facts straight, then post your comment!

So.....now I know why it costs so much to feed my dog.....I have to pay for the"giveway" huge money. Since I have no say in how the company profits are used, I guess I will switch brands. Who will pay for maintenance and insurance? And, lastly, who pays if a child or adult gets seriously attacked and sues? Just wondering.......????????? Bow Wow!!!!!

Go to the website and read the rules and regulations, part of the money is to help maintain the park. And about your "seriously attacked and sues," comment, WOULD YOU SUE THE CITY IF YOU GOT ATTACKED AT A CHILDREN PARK? These are parks, public parks.... wow, really!

Why all the negative comments?. This is something great for a change. Dog Parks are all across the nation. They have gained in popularity due to the fact they unite people. Dog parks are truly wonderful. More so, they are a park for people as well. This is a national contest. Thanks to Leigh for going above and beyond and becoming a national finalist. It took a lot of initiative to do this. Its sad that when good stories come out, there are people who like to dwell in the negative. Animals ask nothing in return other than your love. To everyone voting, keep it up!!...We can and will do this!!!. Vote everyday!.

Old Yeller..agree, we had the airport really build up nice on stimulus money for an airlines that is propped up with federal susidies to tickets. We are left holding the bag here with the facility and energy costs. Gville has a dog park, no one addressed that. Parks and Rec run it. So having two of them makes no sense to me as "THE CITY AND STATE HAVE NO MONEY TO SUPPORT EVEN A CONTRIBUTION". Sorry...OK now. Let another city get the park, there already is one and if some people don't know that...well, that must be an Obama voter.

READ THE ARTICLE and you will see that it is not to create another park but to give the current one a makeover and the money also goes to maintanice costs as well. Also, how much money do you think is brought to this community becuase of an airport. Business people fly in and out, stay at hotels, eat at resturants, hold confrences at the convention center, rent cars, money from ticket costs, need I go on? All of this is money that the community would not have if it weren't for the airport, money the community needs to provide services and aminities for its residents because tax money isn't enough.
