An eight year old Beaufort County girl has died after she was in a traffic accident Monday afternoon.

Highway Patrol Sgt. Tim Crumpler says Candy Frangoez, along with her two brothers were in their mom's station wagon on Highway 32. He says the mother, Maria Prado of Pinetown, pulled onto U.S. 264 in front of a sports utility vehicle driven by Joan Armstrong of Belhaven.

The child was airlifted to Pitt County Memorial Hospital where she later died. Her six year old brother is still at the hospital while the other brother was released.

Prado was charged with failure to yield.

Previous Story

Four people, including three children, were injured in a late afternoon wreck Monday in Beaufort county. One of the kids had to be airlifted to Pitt County Memorial Hospital.

Highway patrol says the crash happened around 5:00 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 264 and Highway 32, known as Douglas crossroads. Troopers say 37-year-old Maria Prado of Pinetown was headed north on 32 when she went through the intersection and was hit by a vehicle headed east on 264. All the injured kids were in Prado's vehicle. The extent of injuries is unknown. The driver of the other vehicle was not hurt. Troopers say Prado was cited for failure to yield.

Losing a child and probably blaming yourself for the rest of your life is the worse sentence anyone could receive. To the people with just evil things to post-please-just stop.

I have seen ALL kinds of accidents at that LIGHT-The problem is the way it is made-In some vehicles you have to get in the middle of the road to see if anyone else is coming--BAD,BAD LIGHT So Sorry for the family-Wonder how many more will have to die or be disfigured by this intersection.

I am so sorry and sick to hear that a precious child has passed away as a result of this dangerous intersection. I travel through this area daily with my son and have seen many near accidents. If any good at all can come of this tragedy, MAYBE, it will become apparent just how badly we need a STOP (not caution) light. My prayers are with this family.

i agree they need a stop light here, this is so sad,a child will never grow up,get married have a family, and now her family will never be the same or complete even if it was the mother fault a stop light might of save this child light and other live,s that goes through this inter section 24/7.

Does anyone know when the funeral for this child will be? Candy was a student on my school bus and she will be sorely missed. My prayers are with the family. She was a beautiful and very well behaved child. Sherry
