35,000 Pounds Of Chicken Flip Over On I-95

State troopers say I-95 is now fully open after a tractor trailer load of chicken overturned early this morning.

It happened around 4:50 a.m. in Halifax County near the weigh station at milepost 151. One lane northbound was closed until 11:30 a.m.

The Highway Patrol said the driver of the Perdue Farms truck fell asleep, with 35,000 pounds of chicken on ice flipping over. The chicken was being transferred between Perdue plants in Rockingham, North Carolina and Dover, Delaware.

The driver was charged with careless and reckless driving and failure to maintain lane control.

Well guys, as a professional driver allow me to pick this story apart - #1. This wreck would have never happened if the driver had properly increased his following distance, and had allowed himself enough time to stop before braking aggressively, or did not check the trailers air system during his pre / post trip inspection. #2. Not all truck drivers are uneducated unprofessional slobs as some of you seem to think ; Well, ok perhaps a few bad ones that give us good ones a bad name. #3. Personally speaking, trucking is not the greatest paying job in the world, but it allows most men to put food on the table at home, and or blow an entire weeks pay at a chrome shop. #4. The above driver was very lucky he did not lose his life in this incident, nor kill anyone else in the process. Incidents like these are why the regulatory standards are very high and entry to trucking is getting more and more restrictive. #5. I will be arriving shortly, I have a trailer full of charcoal grills I will be selling at the nearest truck stop to those who may be interested. Also - To all the woman who continuously flash their chests at truck drivers ; Keep up the good work - It is because of you why most of us keep coming back day after day! BE SAFE ON THE ROADWAY EVERYONE AND REMEMBER : I MAY HAVE JUST CAUGHT MY WIFE CHEATING ON ME, SO STAY OUT OF MY BLIND SPOTS! GOOD DAY!

Oh dear! His yearly bonus might be in jeopardy. Thought big rig trucks had an hourly data limitation device that would prevent driving over a certain amount of hours. At least he lives to tell the tale.

Glad it didn't happen in Wilson, the mayor and company would have had a field day with it since they're trying to stop sanderson farms from bulding a chicken processing plant that will bring about 1000 needed jobs to under educated poor people. Guess they doesn't mind paying the unemployment and just lettin em hang out all over town.

you are missing the point. he was pointing out that people you have problems finding jobs could work there. and some of the ones having the most problem finding work are under-educated.
