A Carteret County man is behind bars after deputies found him inside a car they say he stole.
The Carteret County Sheriff's Office said Terrence Conklin, 42, of Beaufort is facing a slew of charges after going on a crime spree in Marshallberg early Saturday morning.
Deputies received a call about 2 a.m. Saturday when a homeowner spotted Conklin attempting to break-in their home.
Officials searched the area and discovered numerous of car doors standing open and Conklin slumped over a steering wheel of an alleged stolen vehicle at the end of Marshallberg road.
Conklin was arrested and placed in the Carteret County Jail under a $25,000 bond for five counts of breaking and entering a motor vehicle, two counts of damage to property, and one count each of larceny of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen goods, attempted breaking and entering of a vehicle, and one count of attempted first degree burglary of a residence.
