200 Year Old Church Damaged After Car Crash

A historic church in Washington County was damaged this morning after a car ran off the road and then hit the place of worship.

The Highway Patrol says a woman driving a Ford Escort north on Cherry Road in Creswell, tried to go around a piece of farming equipment around 9:40 a.m.

At the same time, the farm equipment began making a left turn onto Mt. Tabor Road.

Troopers say the woman clipped the farm equipment, ran off the road and crashed into the Concord Primitive Baptist Church.

The church, which was built in 1810, suffered minor damage to a couple of beams.

No one was injured in the wreck and troopers say the driver of the Ford Escort is charged with improper passing.
