Research Looks Into Sleeping Pill Risk

Sleeping pills may be associated with a higher risk of an early death.

Researchers at Scripps Health in San Diego analyzed information on nearly 35,000 patients. More than 10,000 had been prescribed sleeping pills.

Researchers observed an association between common sleep aids and early death and an increase in cancer cases. Doctors say they accounted for health and lifestyle factors, but the risk for early death held.

This does not prove sleeping pills lead to health problems, but calls for additional research.
