Several people were honored Tuesday at an American Red Cross event in Pitt County.

Micheal Francis received an award for Volunteer Leadership. Amy Parson was named Emergency Services Volunteer of the year.

Two Hal May Outstanding Board Member awards were given, to Connie Elks of the Pitt County Chapter and WITN's Mark Gentner of the Greater Pamlico Chapter.

Donna Dorsey recevied the Nell Stallings Leadership Award, and many others were recognized for the service to the Red Cross as well.

The Red Cross has helped in more than 70,000 disasters here and across our country in the past year.

This year's HEROES campaign was the most successful ever, raising $140,000 for disaster assistance in the Pitt and Greater Pamlico chapter areas.
