Rabid Fox Attacks, Bites Onslow County Man

An Onslow County man is undergoing rabies shots after being bitten by a rabid fox, according to county officials.

Tests performed Monday show that a fox which attacked and bit the resident of Lafitte Drive in Hubert came back positive for rabies.

Onslow County says this is the third case of rabies confirmed in the county since January. The most recent positive case occurred on March 20th in the Richland's area when another rabid fox was found.

"We remind all pet owners to have their dogs and cats vaccinated annually," says Alan Davis, Animal Services Director, "Vaccinations are essential to protecting cats and dogs against rabies, and are the first line of defense against human infection."

Davis also says Onslow County Animal Services will increase its surveillance in the rabies alert area and impound any stray cats or dogs.
