William A. Ballance, Jr., M.D., was named in the US News and World Report as one of the top 249 pathologists on the list of US News Top Doctors. These physicians are selected based on a “peer nomination process”. When a patient needs a specialist and their primary care does not know of one personally, he or she often asks his or her colleagues who they suggest. Such is the nature of how physicians and patients find top medical specialists and is the “guiding principle” behind the peer-nomination process used to compile Top Doctors.
Per the website associated with the article, US News Top Doctors was developed in collaboration with Castle Connolly Medical Ltd. Castle Connolly is a New York based company which aims to identify the ‘nation’s top doctors”. The physicians cannot pay US News or Castle Connolly to be selected, nor can their employers.
