Komen Drops Plan To Cut Planned Parenthood Grants

After three days of controversy, the Susan G. Komen for the Cure breast-cancer charity says it is reversing its decision to cut breast-screening grants to Planned Parenthood.

"We want to apologize to the American public for recent decisions that cast doubt upon our commitment to our mission of saving women's lives," a Komen statement said.

As first reported by The Associated Press on Tuesday, Komen had adopted criteria excluding Planned Parenthood from grants because it was under government investigation, notably a probe launched in Congress at the urging of anti-abortion groups.

Komen said Friday it would change the criteria so it wouldn't apply to such investigations.

"We will continue to fund existing grants, including those of Planned Parenthood, and preserve their eligibility to apply for future grants," the statement said.

In order to try to prevent abortion counseling to 3% of the PPH patients-which is NOT government funded, Komen and the GOP want to risk 97% of the women who are treated for cancer, getting mammeograms, std treatment, etc. How can they possibly call themselves "pro life"? They are not "pro women's lives", they are pro-control!

I will no longer support them if they are supporting planned parenthood. There are other ways to support the fight against breast cancer than this corrupt organization. And yes abortion is murder.

I bet your wife and daughter get cancer screening! But it is just fine with you if thousands of poor women go untreated! What "other ways" do you suggest? Pro life? Obviously you are NOT pro-poor women's lives!

It's okay, they'll keep at it until they finally get their way. It's the same thing a baby does. Cry and complain until they get their way.

This is one more time when the will of the people made a difference. This has bee happening more and more on a large scale and it is really encouraging. It makes me think, even with all the hate and pettiness you see in politics, this country still has a chance to "by the people and for the people" and not just "by the people with the money".

Of course you would have no problem with this, you have no problem with taxpayer money funding abortions. And those people with the money...you should fall on your knees and thank them for giving over 200% of all the donations in this country over liberal democrats. Your solution is, make the government pay for it and steal it from the rich who are paying over 47% of all American taxes. Top 5% do. I think you should tax all Americans the same rate no matter what they make except the very poor on public assistance. You want everyone to pay their fair share, 15% to everyone. What is fair is for all of us to pay for the same services we use. You post as a true socialist...really.

15% isn't a fair share to everybody though. A person making 20,000 a year is greatly effected by the removal of 15% of their income. A person making 2,000,000% can easily pay 15% and feel no effect, while the person making 20,000$ would suffer greatly.

While I appreciate your response, the point is the left will not say what is fair, their answer is to play class warfare. When near 50% don't pay taxes at all and even get a refund, is that fair? I threw the number out since Barlow won't. I know what you are saying but the point is, shouldn't all Americans pay something into America and if so, why just the wealthy? Do we middleclass not get the same services as them? I am for a flat tax on things you buy. No income, property, special gas tax or even "special taxes". Just tax on what a person spends, then we get the tax cheats and illegals. Also, years ago when I started working, I paid 12% on my 20K job, I didn't complain, I felt it was my duty as a taxpayer and voter.

The world isn't fair, OSOC. One group is always going to find something to be upset about. The idea is to compromise. To the left's credit, they've tried to compromise, and while I support the fact that the rich people want to hold onto their money, it'd be nice to see them not be so hesitant to have their taxes at the very least, put back to pre-bush cut levels. That's a start for fairness.

No, a zygote doesn't get a choice. Just like trillions of sperm and millions unfertilized eggs don't. Why don't we start making masturbation illegal? It's killing potential lives. Same thing with a womans menstural cycle, it's kill a possible life. Why don't we make that illegal too?

This pro-life gal didn't because I had learned of their association with the abortion mill built on the ideas of a racist trying to eradicate black people, known as Planned Parenthood, long ago. I DO give to the American Cancer Society. Did you not see the study that showed that liberals (and I am assuming you are) give WAY less than conservatives to charities? I guess it's just that when a liberal gives, they shout it from the rooftop, while a conservative believes that when one gives it should not be to boast.

Yeah, you are "pro-life" as long as it isn't some poor woman's with Cancer! Maybe the reason the Dems. didn't give as much money was they are represented by fewer billionaires! Ever hear of the "Widow's mite"?

About 200% more than the democrats did....up until now. I sure hope it works out well without the conservatives support. It was a good cause but not anymore. Go to Utube and check out Planned Parenthood and Abortion. I am catholic...not anymore with donations with SGK and my family won't give either. Its simple really, its against our religion and our faith. I know you progressives have just like moved on...but murder is like ah....murder.

I quess the leading lady saw where her allies stand. The reversal is TOO LATE. What a stupid move to play politics with people's lives? The current change of it's decision is not going to totaly bail them out. How stupid can some people be.

So those of us who are pro-life rally around SGK and give it huge donations yesterday, while those that are pro-abortion rally around PP and give it huge donations yesterday. Sounds like the American donors got played again.
