More than a thousand people hit the pavement Saturday morning with one goal in mind, to raise money to help find a cure for juvenile diabetes

The JDRF Walk For A Cure was held at the Greenville Convention Center. There was an outpouring of support there. Many people got together to create a team, fundraise and then walk.

WITN talked with a 6 and 1/2 year old named Brady Butler who learned he had diabetes around two years ago.

Brady helped his family put together a team, raise money and even designed their team t-shirt. Brady said, “I have diabetes and I want to help them find a cure.”

Brady’s Dad John said, “We’re hoping that with all the money that we can raise that we can do something to make it better. Hopefully, they can find a cure, but if we can do anything to fund it to make it better then that’s why we’re here.”

JDRF was founded in 1970 by parents of children with type 1 diabetes, with the mission to find a cure for diabetes and its complications.

Since 1970, JDRF has provided more than $1.6 billion in research grants at universities and laboratories around the world.

In a typical year, more than 80 percent of JDRF’s expenditures directly support research and research related education.
Saturday’s walk in Greenville raised around $165,000 dollars.
