RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- The General Assembly has finalized a temporary solution designed to ensure thousands of North Carolina residents living in group homes and special dementia units get aid while losing certain Medicaid services.
The House unanimously agreed Tuesday to the Senate's version of the bill that says $40 million set aside to supplement Medicaid payments though this summer to adult care home residents also can help other facilities. The measure now heads to Gov. Pat McCrory for his signature.
New rules reduced or eliminated what Medicaid covered for people with severe mental illness, developmental disabilities or Alzheimer's disease, such as bathing or meals.
A few months ago, then-Gov. Beverly Perdue said she believed the money could only go to adult care home residents. Tuesday's bill changes that.
