The Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina in Greenville is celebrating the move to a new, larger location on Union Street.

Staff has been operating out of the new building since October 1st, but a ribbon cutting celebration Thursday afternoon introduced the 17,500 square feet facility to the public. A new produce room was donated by Food Lion.

The Food Bank has provided food for people at risk of hunger in 34 counties for 30 years. The Food Bank serves a network of more than 800 partner agencies such as soup kitchens, food pantries, shelters, and programs for children and adults through distribution centers in Durham, Greenville, New Bern, Raleigh, and Wilmington.

It says more than 560,000 people in central and eastern NC struggle each day to provide enough food for their families.
