Five People Getting Treatment Because Of Rabid Kitten

Five people in Carteret County are being treated against rabies after coming into contact with an infected kitten.

The four month old cat was found along the road in the Bettie area on Sunday. That is between Beaufort and Harker's Island. The two people who found the kitten brought him home. Three more people were scratched and bitten by the cat.

The folks brought the kitten to a local vet because it appeared sick. The Health Department determined the kitten had rabies, so all five people are now being treated against the disease.

If your pets are not vaccinated and might have come into contact with that kitten, call the Animal Control Division of the Health Department at: 252-728-8585.

The Health Department has scheduled a low-cost rabies vaccination clinic on Friday, September 28 from 10 AM to 2 PM at its location at 3820 A Bridges Street in Morehead City. The cost is $7.00 for a one-year vaccine. There is no limit on the number of pets you have vaccinated.
