Starting in 2013 East Carolina University will become the second university in the UNC system to offer a master's program for health informatics and information management. As the use of technology has increased in the medical field, It's changing how patients' records are filed, and professors say its the program will turn out graduates ready to fill more than 200 information management jobs open around the state now.

"It's important because we are going to be able to meet the workforce training needs of the health care sector. Specifically, the health informatics and information management. We have evolved so greatly in such a short period of time that it's all about health care data." said Informatics & Information Director Dr. Paul Bell.

Dr. Bell says the college is not receiving any additional funding for the program. However, this master's program will replace the bachelor's in Health Information Management in the fall of 2013.
