A recall of locally grown melons has expanded because of possible listeria contamination.
Burch Farms of Faison in Duplin County is recalling every cantaloupe and honeydew melon it has grown this year.
The Food and Drug Administration found listeria on a melon at the company's packing facility in Faison.
The melons went to distributors in 18 states along the East Coast and in the Midwest. It is also possible the melons may have been resold in other states.
The cantaloupes have stickers that say either Burch Farms or Cottle Strawberry on them, but the honeydew melons don't have a sticker. Those with those melons should call the store where they bought them and ask where the melons came from.
The FDA says so far it knows of no one getting sick from the melons.
