The Craven County Health Department now offers primary care to adults, whether they're under-insured, uninsured, or on medicaid. Nursing Director Teresa Ellen says if a patient is uninsured and working they can pay on a sliding fee scale based on their income. That scale can slide as low as 20-percent of the total charge.
"We feel as public health part of our mission is to provide a safety net for those who are unable to find services elsewhere. As I mentioned before, those folks who have no insurance or who make just enough money they aren't eligible for the free clinic, and those who have medicaid or those who have insurance; but it doesn't cover much and they have really high deductibles. We're hoping to be the safety net for those people," said Ellen.
Patients don't have to live in Craven County to use the adult primary care office. Right now it's open Monday- Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m by appointment only.
