Man Taking Wife To Hospital For Birth Fights Ticket

A man in Massachusetts is appealing a $100 ticket he got for driving to a hospital in the breakdown lane of a gridlocked Boston highway while his wife was in labor.

The Boston Globe reports that a state trooper pulled over John Davis and his wife Jennifer for using the breakdown lane on November 18.

The Dracut man says his wife's contractions were three minutes apart.

The couple says the trooper made them wait five to 10 minutes while he wrote a ticket for another car on Route 2, asked to see Jennifer's belly to prove her pregnancy, then issued them a ticket.

The couple made it to Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge. Their daughter was born five hours later. State police say no discipline is likely for the trooper.

I agree that the trooper should have called EMS or escorted the couple to the hospital. The pains being 3 mins apart didn't mean that the birth was hours away. As an OB nurse, I have seen many moms go from 3 min pains to delivery in just a matter of minutes. And as for him asking to see her stomach to "prove her pregnancy" is absolutely ludicrous. He should be disciplined some way.

The trooper should be made to eat the ticket, then apologize, then be fired, then turn over what money has has in his pension to this man and his wife for being so stupid.Only in Kennedyland would troopers be this dumb.

First, the Trooper was a complete moron. Given the nature, he should immediately have called for EMS. The driver also was wrong. What good would he have done had he got in a wreck.3 minute contractions usually mean the baby is not ready to come. As the article states, the baby was born 5 hrs. later. I sincerely believe the trooper, at the very least, be suspended. He was not thinking.

First I would like to say Congratulation. If the State Trooper pulled them over why didn't he call for paramedics to come and take over. This come to show people how certain individual over step their boundaries. This is a shame.

I'm as pro-police as I can be, but I must say that this incident should'nt have happened.
