Criminals Target Prescription Drugs Like Never Before

Cocaine and marijuana are becoming drugs of the past, being replaced with prescription drugs like Percocet, Oxycodone and Methodone say lawmen.

Onslow County Sheriff Ed Brown says the main reason many crimes are being committed is to gain access to such drugs.

Captain John Lewis says they're seeing a decrease in the availability of marijuana and cocaine, and that in part, is pushing people to prescription drugs.

Lewis says some people Dr. shop, going to the same Dr. with the same complaints to get a prescription. He also says culprits are breaking into homes to steal pills, often targeting the elderly or even stealing the pills from pharmacy parking lots.
