ER Waiting Game; Speed Up Your Treatment

We all know that wait times at the emergency room have gotten longer. But some good news on the ER wait, Marketwatch suggests some ways you can possibly speed up your treatment.

In the ER, give an honest account of your symptoms, but don't overstate them.

Tell a triage nurse if your condition worsens as you wait.

Make a list of your medications beforehand.

And ask to speak to someone in charge if you feel you're very sick and are not getting prompt care.

Excellent suggestions, WITN. I also agree with you, "J". Lots of people go to the ER for non-emergencies. Many of them are uninsured, which explains why they do so.

Wait times in the ER is drastically increased whenever you have people who feel that it is there for their convenience...Sniffles, sore throats, constipation, gas,...etc, are NOT life threatening occurences. People who are either too ignorant, too stupid or too common to care are the ones responsible for the bottlenecking in our ER's. Some facilities are even closing their doors to trauma care due to the abuse of non-paying people. It costs more to treat these people for minor complaints than the hospital gets reimbursed. Consequently, health care/coverage rates go up...So, again, hard working, premium paying people get stuck holding the bag for low rents with colds. If people would only EDUCATE themselves, instead of relying on the system to do it for them...Sigh.

do not ever go to the ED for non-life threatening conditions and wait time will be cut unbelievably. the ED is not a primary care provider and should NEVER be used as such. go only if a threat to life exists
