A statewide initiative to promote fitness has thousands of North Carolinians committed to walking more than a million steps.
Participants in Greenville gathered at East Carolina University Wednesday morning and put on their walking shoes to support the million step march. Gary Marino and his walking partner, Kathy Higgins started in Asheville on April first and have made it to Greenville for a fitness rally. More than a hundred folks made a ceremonial walk around campus. Marino, used to be close to four hundred pounds and lost 150 in four years. Through fitness and better eating habits, he changed his life. Now with this march he hopes to help others take that first step.
Marino and Higgins will complete 1.3 million steps when they arrive in Wilmington in mid June.
