Wreck Between Scooter, Raleigh Police Car Kills 2

Police say two men on a stolen motor scooter are dead after their vehicle crossed the center line and collided with a Raleigh police cruiser.

The police report says the accident occurred about 3 a.m. Wednesday. The report says the wreck killed the driver, 20-year-old Maurice Antonio Harden and a passenger, 21-year-old Trindell Devon Thomas.

Police say the motor scooter veered into oncoming traffic and hit a cruiser driver by Officer Jonathan Crews, who was trying to stop a speeding car. Crews was driving 77 mph in a 35 mph zone, while Harden was traveling at 35 mph.

The 27-year-old Crews suffered minor injuries.

When the wreck occurred, another officer had been trying to catch up to the scooter because he noticed it had a malfunctioning headlamp.
