A major bridge project that's been sitting idle for the past four months has started back up again.

Work stopped back in mid-October on the new Buddy Phillips Bridge in Jacksonville when the contractor went bankrupt. The bridge takes Highway 17 across the New River.

After Intercoastal Contracting of Castle Hayne filed for bankruptcy, the D.O.T. had to hire another company to finish the work.

At the time, the $11.8 million project was 20% ahead of schedule. The D.O.T. says they still hope to get the new four-lane bridge open by the original completion date of July 5th.
