PREVIOUS STORY:

State wildlife officers are keeping a close eye on a bear that's been up in a tree in a Washington neighborhood most of the day.

It's happening on 8th Street, between Charlotte and Brown streets. The bear is some 30 to 40 feet up the tree in a yard between two homes.

The bear has attracted quite a few onlookers.

Wildlife officers say it's a young adult bear, that weighs around 150 pounds. Officers tell WITN they expect the bear to stay up in the tree until dusk and then come down.

Officers have the block closed off and want to make sure when the bear does come down it safely goes on its way.
