White House Says North Carolina Can't Secede

It looks like North Carolina will have to stay in the Union, once again.

The White House says even though 31,835 people signed an online petition asking to peacefully withdraw from the United States, the Civil War had already decided that for us.

The drive came after President Barack Obama was re-elected and conservatives took the the White House web site where petitions to the government are encouraged.

White House Public Engagement Director Jon Carson said democracy can be noisy and controversial, but "we don't let debate tear us apart."

Carson says more than 600,000 Americans died in the Civil War, and short afterward "the Supreme Court confirmed that the Constitution, in all its provisions, looks to an indestructible Union composed of indestructible States."

Carson's response was for North Carolina's petition and eight others.
