Wake County Voters Arrested For Voting Twice In 2008

Three Raleigh residents apparently thought casting one ballot in 2008 wasn't enough.

Authorities said Kierra Fontae Leache, Shelia Romona Hodges and Brandon Earl McLean each cast early ballots in the 2008 presidential election, then voted again on Election Day. They are charged with voter fraud and are free on $10,000 bond apiece.

Wake County District Attorney Colon Willoughby said six more arrests are pending.

Republicans leapt on news of the arrests Thursday to bolster support for a GOP-backed bill to require voters to show photo ID at the polls. Democratic Gov. Bev Perdue vetoed it.

Wake elections director Cherie Poucher said the three used their real names when they voted.

What will Hope N Change do without ACORN who he was their attorney for years? A judge on Wednesday August 8th ,2011 fined the defunct grass-roots community organizing group ACORN $5,000 for its illegal voter-registration program in Nevada — but said he wishes he could have put someone in prison, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported. At the sentencing, Clark County District Judge Donald Mosley said if a person had been before him instead of a corporation, he would have slapped the individual with a 10-year prison term. “And I wouldn’t have thought twice about it,” Mosley said. Instead, Mosley fined the group the maximum of $5,000. He said the corporation made a “mockery” of the country’s electoral process. ACORN pled guilty in April to one count of felony compensation for registration of voters for its role in a program during the 2008 election cycle that provided cash to workers based on the number of voters they registered. The incentive program — dubbed Blackjack or 21-Plus — gave workers an extra $5 each shift they gathered 21 or more filled out voter registration cards. Prosecutors said ACORN authorized a Las Vegas field worker to run the illegal compensation program.

If it is true that they asked whether their early voting was valid and were given a ballot and told to vote, then the poll workers should also be included in any prosecution!!!!!!!!!!!! The poll worker should have called their supervisor to handle the situation. Their lawyers will have a field-day in cross examining the poll worker at the trial. I have heard of other instances where the board of election decided that the person was elderly and it was probably just "old age" so they were not reported to the district attorney. Same rules should apply to everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THis is exactly why we need voting reform. We need electronic records with a photo id to FLAG someone that has already voted. Craven County uses a notebook with printed names. I personally witnessed three names in the list that don't even live in NC anymore... for over 6 years. THeir names are STILL on the books. I could have easily voted 3 more times because I know their address and that's all I need in order to use theie names.

I watched the elections and voting on TV in 2008 and a African American man said to the news anchor that "man I gotta go me and my bros are
Getting ready to vote again". The reporter turned to the cameras, made a face and said "umm isn't that illegal?"
