He served our country during the Vietnam War and returned home with some lingering health issues.
Now Dr. Carmen Russoniello is helping others with post traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injures by leading a biofeedback program at East Carolina University.
At the age of 18, Russoniello fought the Vietcong as a machine gunner in the hot jungles. He says his body hit complete exhaustion and shut down. His commanding officer told him he needed to get out.
Russoniello returned to the United States and suffered from a disorder that, at the time, didn't have a name.
He overcame those obstacles to become ECU's Director of the Center for Applied Psychophysiology at the College of Health and Human Performance.
He's now leading a team of doctorate students using bio feed technology to help veterans to overcome the disorder he once suffered.
