Healthcare professionals met at the Hilton in Greenville to discuss the challenges they face in Eastern Carolina.
Nearly 200 attended the 2014 Health Care Conference hosted by Vidant Health on Monday. Topics discussed include Medicaid reform and the changing social compact of health care.
President and CEO of Vidant Health Dr. David Herman said Eastern North Carolina has low levels of health compared to the rest of the country. He said many are living at or below the poverty line. As a result, one big problem addressed at the conference was the affordability of services.
Dr. Herman believes it must be a community-wide effort among many organizations to improve health care in the east.
