Police have made an arrest in a shooting last week that injured a 12-year-old girl.
New Bern police have charged Anton Ward with possession of a firearm by a minor. Ward is 17-years-old.
No adults were at home when the shooting happened at 1206 Kinston Street, shortly after midnight Wednesday.
The victim was shot in the leg and police said at the time that they believed it was an accident.
A twelve-year-old girl is trying to recover after getting shot early Wednesday morning in New Bern.
Police tell WITN that the shooting happened on 1206 Kinston Street around 12:15 a.m. Wednesday.
Police say they initially received the call from the hospital about the girl.
The girl was shot in the leg. Police say she is expected to survive and was taken to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville as a precaution.
Police tell us they don't know if the shooting happened on the porch or inside the home. They say no adults were at home at the time.
There were at least three kids there at the time, and one of them had the gun, according to officers. Police say early indications are that it was probably an accidental discharge.
Police are in possession of the small caliber handgun, and no arrests have been made.
New Bern does have a curfew, but it only applies to public places such as streets or sidewalks. Private property, like a porch or a yard, is not covered.
