Man Drowns After Flipping Truck Into Ayden Canal

Highway Patrol Trooper Everette Deans says 45 year old Tony Carmon of Shaman Court in Winterville drowned after he lost control of his pickup on a wet road in Ayden and ended up upside down in a canal. No other vehicles were involved.

Highway Patrol and EMS responded to an overturned 1992 Ford pickup Tuesday night at 5:44p.m. off Highway 102 near Rountree Road. Trooper Deans says Carmon lost control, hit a sign and a ditch, and then overturned into water in a canal.

Trooper Deans says Carmon was wearing his seatbelt and died from drowning when he could not escape the truck which was submerged in water that came up past the driver's side window.
