NEW INFO: Driver Dead After Pitt County Crash

The driver of a car died after his Mitsubishi went airborne and struck a tree this afternoon.

The single vehicle crash happened around 2:50 p.m. on Old River Road, northwest of Greenville.

Trooper Everette Deans says 22-year-old David Young of Greenville died at the scene of the accident. He said Young's vehicle was west bound and lost control in a curve at the intersection of Lombard Avenue. The vehicle first struck a ditch, became airborne and then hit the tree.

The road was closed for nearly an hour because of the wreck. Trooper Deans says he does not believe speed or alcohol were a factor.
