Transformer Blows, High Schoolers Out Early On First Day Back

The first day of the Spring semester at Kinston High School was an unplanned half-day.

Kinston Assistant Public Services Director Steve Miller, said the school's transformer blew. Students were in the dark around 10:30AM on their first day back in the 2012-2013 Spring semester. Miller said the transformer did not catch fire, cause any damage to the school, and only affected power at the school.

Lenoir County Schools spokeswoman Lidia Guzman said the cafeteria could not operate and serve students lunch, so the decision was made to release them early from school.

Guzman was told the transformer would take nearly six hours to repair, and students should be able to return to school on Thursday.
